Human Rights Internships in Brussels
Some Opinions

Human Rights Without Frontiers offers placements for internships of varying duration from one to five months depending on the applicant's availability and education plan.

The aim of the internship programme is to offer to under-graduate and post-graduate students the opportunity to expand the scope of their studies by acquiring practical knowledge and a better understanding of human rights issues and advocacy.

The internships are designed to be a learning experience. Assignments would vary in terms of content and of the intern's profile with the purpose to match the interests of the intern with the needs of the organisation. Assignments would be designed either within on-going programs or on an ad-hoc basis.

The work plan would include:
  • management of the daily Press Service on "Religious Intolerance and Discrimination", the weekly Press Service on "North Korea" and the monthly Press Service on "European Institutions and Human Rights";
  • research and synthesis of information on specific topics;
  • cataloguing knowledge and information;
  • help in maintaining and developing the organisation's website;
  • preparing reports, analysis and interviews when assignments and responsibilities are commensurate with the intern's experience.

Human Rights Without Frontiers view the integration of interns in its programme of activities as a long-term investment in the promotion of human rights worldwide. On the one hand, they have the potential to offer the most recent thinking and research tools in their area of study and to contribute to the activities of the organisation. On the other, they would gain experience that would allow them to pursue human rights advocacy in the decades to come at different institutions and at different levels.

We view human rights issues and advocacy as an area of challenges and opportunities and expect interns to share our commitment and enthusiasm.

You may need to prove that you made an internship for your further studies but you may not be able to find an appropriate organization there may not be any vacancy at the time of your choice or you may not have the necessary funding for that.

Our NGO also has a limited number of vacancies. Keep in mind that coming to Brussels and staying in Brussels involves some expenses (flight, renting a room, living expenses) which will be inferior to our fees.

We offer you the possibility to do your internship at distance from home under the guidance of a qualified tutor on the basis of a program to be discussed but consisting mainly in research and reporting. At the end of the program, you get a detailed assessment of your skills (for your own use) and a participation certificate. Duration: 1 month (or more if needed).

Once there is an agreement on the topic, you will be requested to pay the registration fees.

Fees: 500 EUR (1 month) - 750 EUR (2 months)
