Activities
HRWF/Bhutan is active to protect, promote, respect of human rights and to dedicated to be active for the restoration absolute democracy in Bhutan. Likewise, the activities of HRWF Bhutan are centralized to ensure a peaceful democratic society by strengthening democratic system. We have been facing difficulties to run its activities due to lack of sufficient financial resources and institutional infrastructure. Hence, we felt that we have to concentrate to enhancement of institutional infrastructure and capacity building and fund raising for the preparation and implementation of projects complying with our objectives. Our activities conducted by the help of little resources collected from donor community and contributed voluntarily by its well wishers can be summed up as follows:
A. Monthly discussion on Human Rights issues
We are conducting monthly discussion on human rights issues inviting refugee leaders, Nepalese human rights community and other stake holders and discussing the issue of Bhutan and refugees.
B. Publications
We are publishing Bi-Monthly newspaper Human Rights Times including the news, press statement, articles regarding human rights issues.
C. Human Rights Education Program
To restore absolute democracy in Bhutan entire Bhutanese community should play very significant role. So we have decided to conduct human rights education program targeting the students of higher secondary and secondary levels of the refugee camps. We are preparing draft handbook of human rights and likely to publish soon.
D. Monitoring and reporting human rights situation
We have decided to monitor the gross human rights violation inside refugee camps and Bhutan. We have seven representatives in seven refugee camp and are in regular contact with us. We have also made secret intelligence network to monitor human rights violation inside Bhutan. For example on January 2007, our intelligence found that refugee journalist arrested inside Bhutan and we conducted fact finding mission promptly.
E. Occasional Program on Human Rights issues
Considering the Bhutanese movement, we have been conducting interaction, talk programs and lobbying for the national and International pressure groups.
F. Human rights awareness activities, e.g., workshop, focus group discussion, talk programs:
Before commencement of HRWF Bhutan branch the current members of the organization were actively involved in field of human rights from very beginning. The activities such as refugee rights education program, focus group discussions are held on various occasions by its member in different level are excited to run such types of program in more commendable way.
G. Working together with different organization:
To achieve the objectives of the organization we are co-ordinating with other organization having similar objectives. We are conducting programs with collaboration with them.
